ONE DIES, SCORES INJURED IN INYATI MINE ACCIDENT

One person died on the spot and more than 25 others were injured in Inyati Mine, Manicaland, when a truck they were travelling in failed to pull up a steep road, rolled back and overturned, according to reports from witnesses.

The two ton truck was allegedly overloaded, leading to it's shortage of horsepower to carry it's weight up a steep hill.

The body of the deceased and all the injured were ferried to Rusape General Hospital for mortuary services and treatment respectively.

An eye witness who spoke to Society 24 on condition of anonymity said the truck, which belongs to councillor David Muzarabani of ward 8 in Makoni, was coming from a church near Inyati Mine Primary school.

"The person who was driving the truck is actually Muzarabani's Brother. It is sad that people would still drive unconditioned vehicles on such steep roads and overload them,"

"Not long ago a Zupco bus met the same fate on this hill and killed the bus' conductor," he added.

Comments from people in the area say it is now generally considered a black spot owing to the constant loss of lives from traffic mishaps.

The police are yet to confirm the accident and the deceased's identity has also been withheld pending due police process.

Below are pictures of the ill fated truck.
